Visit to BM&AG and Gas Hall

Bournville College Foundation Diploma Arstudents skecthing from emett's drawingst & Design students got their first week off to a start in September with a live brief commission and a visit to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery to gather ideas and reference material for the live project.  The students visited both the main museum and art gallery and the Gas Hall to make drawings and take photographs with their theme being Man & Machine.  The Museum & Art Gallery’s exhibition of Birmingham’s industrial heritage was perfect for their project and students particularly enjoyed the exhibition at the Gas Hall – Marvellous Machines: The Wonderful World of Rowland Emett – a collection of imaginative and quirky drawings and automata by Emett who lived and was educated in Birmingham.  With lots of ideas in their sketchbooks, the students returned to college to develop designs for a mural (the designs and the final mural will be featured in a later blog entry – watch this space!)
